15th - 22nd February - Heart Chakra

H E A R T C H A K R A

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning 'plexus', 'wheel' or 'vortex'. It refers to energetic points in places of the spine with each chakra representing a different level of consciousness. These chakras can be seen as 'devices' that receive and emit energy (prana) and information on different frequencies. Through working with the Chakras we begin the process of dis-identification of the "I' and separation from the material world.

Anahata Chakra

The heart Chakra is the fourth energy centre in the human body. Its trigger point in on the spine at mid chest level and its reflection area is the cardiac plexus (a plexus of nerves situated at the base of the heart. It is formed by cardiac branches derived from both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems). On a physical level it governs the circulatory, respiratory and immune system.

It's tattva (element) is associated with air, it is also the element that activates the fluctuations of the mind, stimulates feelings of hope, anxiety, arrogance, indecision and defiance as well as being the centre of unconditional love, selflessness, affection and humility.

Commonly things such as stress and emotional pain or trauma can cause an energetic blockage or your heart chakra too close. This can manifest as a difficulty forming or holding healthy relationships (wether that is with yourself or others). An excess of energy in this area can also lead to an imbalance with feelings of dependance or judgement towards others.

Lets look at the possible symptoms of a blocked heart chakra:

  • Shyness

  • Loneliness

  • Depression/Anxiety

  • Finding it hard to forgive

  • Finding it hard to feel empathy

And the symptoms of excess energy being held in this space:

  • dependence on others for fulfilment

  • jealousy

  • high expectations of others

  • harsh judgement of other people

  • needing acceptance of others

Identifying where our imbalance is the first step towards awareness. There are many ways in which you can work into this chakra, yoga asana being one of them. Deep heart opening postures (front body/ chest space stretches) help to shift any stagnant energy and soften and release any tension or stress you might be holding in this space.

Our classes this week through S E Y will do exactly that...

if that isn't enough to convince you to join me this week, the physical benefit of opening this area is also HUGE, especially as we are spending a lot of time sitting with (I am sure) rounded shoulders.

I would love to see you online this week, all classes bookable through my website.
